1 Holles Crescent

Part of group of similarly styled houses on triangular plot of land enclosed by Lenton Road, Park Drive and Holles Crescent. Built c1865-70, possibly by John Loverseed with architects Hine & Evans. House forms central part of single building also including 3 Park Drive and 3 Holles Crescent. Original house now converted into flats. Three storeys plus basement/cellars. Red brick facades with stone dressings. Decorative brickwork features include buff brick string courses and bands of small, recessed rectangular buff brick panels. Two storey canted window bay on front facade with slate, hipped roof. Bull nose brick detail at eaves and gable verges. Projecting brick plinth at base of main facade with stone capping. Combination of rectangular and semicircular arched openings with stone surrounds to original doors and windows. Stonework detailing generally plain with splay reveals, plus mouldings to cornice detail on bay and to main entrance doorway. Stonework now painted. Slate main pitched roof and rear wing with clay ridge tiles and lead valleys. Gabled dormer on front facade. Red brick chimney stack with stone capped plinth, buff brick string course plus small recessed rectangular panels, corbelled brick head and stone cap. Buff ’crown‘ chimney pots with some missing or replaced. Roof window added. Original c.i. rainwater fittings have been replaced and further pipework added. Sash windows generally, some with glazing bars. Brick and stone boundary wall to the adjacent roads. Brick gate piers with stone plinths and caps have been rendered and painted. Small front garden and enclosed yard at rear.
