Prominently located close to southern entrance of The Park, c1886-88. Part of larger building accommodating three houses (6, 7 and ‘Ferndene’). Building is very similar in form and scale to adjacent building which also accommodates three houses (1, 2 and 3). Now converted into flats. Area had been previously used for garden allotments, known as Fishpond Gardens, since beginning of 19c. Three storeys including attic space with a two storey rear wing. Two storey canted bays on front and side facades. Originally, outbuilding / privy in back garden area. Plain red brick facades with string course and projecting brick headers at first floor storey height level. Chamfered brick reveals to some window openings. Part of brickwork on rear wing has been rendered and painted. Stone dressings to main door and window apertures including some complete stone surrounds, otherwise mainly chamfered lintels and sills. The stonework has now been painted. Gabled roof, partially hipped on main roof, with hipped roofs over rear wing and bays. Clay plain tiles with bonnet hip tiles and ornamental, perforated clay ridge tiles and finials. Painted, projecting wooden eaves and bargeboards at gables. Bargeboards include decorative detail incorporating tie and moulded post. Prominent brick chimney stacks with string course and corbelled brick caps with buff fireclay louvred chimney pots. Some pots are missing. Original rainwater fittings have been replaced. Original casement windows on main facades with single transoms. Twin casements with small pane glazing bars and brick mullion at second floor level. Also, sash windows with glazing bars at rear. A number of alterations to doors and windows. Roof window added. Original panelled main entrance door. No significant extensions. Steel fire escape staircase added. Rebuilt brick boundary wall and gate piers to Peveril Drive with plinth, saddleback copings and stone caps to gate piers. Rear access to back garden area via communal passageway.
