15 Park Valley
One of the earliest houses in The Park c1838-39. Probably by architect Peter Robinson (1775-1858). Robinson’s services were obtained by the 4th Duke of Newcastle in 1825 and he prepared an early (but abandoned) residential layout of The Park c 1827. Grade II Listed. In single household use. Four storeys plus attic with two storey flat roofed former entrance bay on front facade including original vestibule. Glazed porch and small flat roofed cloakroom building added later. Regency style with plain stucco facades, moulded architraves to window openings and projecting sills on simple block brackets. Plain band in shallow relief and moulded cornice detail at roof level with parapets and plain stone copings. Single large chimney breast projecting on each side plus partially recessed blind window openings with moulded semicircular arched heads. Stucco rendered chimney stacks with moulded caps and range of chimney pots. Banded rustication to stucco on rear and side facades at garden storey level. Stucco has been painted. Two windows enlarged c1986 to form glazed doorways from lower ground floor rooms into the garden. Saddleback slate roof with lead lined gutters behind parapets. Dormer window. Original rainwater fittings replaced. Sash windows generally with glazing bars. Semicircular arched window opening to vestibule. Door and window alterations. Shutters (jalousie) to windows on garden front. Rendered brick boundary wall with saddleback copings and gate piers to Park Valley (also Listed). Part of original front boundary wall has been removed to accommodate later porch and provide access to more recent garage building. Original garden area, terraced to suit sloping ground, now partially developed for separate dwelling adjacent to Huntingdon Drive c1970. Sections of original brick boundary wall between Nos.15 and 17 survive. Boundary wall between Nos.15 and 13 has been rebuilt.
