7 Park Valley
One of the earlier houses in The Park c1845-50, possibly by architect T.C. Hine. Hine was later appointed by 5th Duke of Newcastle as Surveyor of Newcastle Estate. By 1855-56 Hine had prepared modified road layout of The Park Estate, which very closely resembles the plan today. Regency style villa with painted stucco facades. A number of extensions and alterations. House and attached boundary wall are Listed Grade II. In single household use. Plan to alter stables prepared for George Pearson c1912 and plans prepared by architects Evans & Son for new garage, also for George Pearson c1920. Stable alterations may have been part of scheme to convert building for separate residential use adjacent to Huntingdon Drive boundary. Three storeys including lower ground floor/basement area with large terraced garden. Single and two storey extensions with slate monopitched roofs abut original road facing facade. Large glasshouse abutted the road facing and north facing facades of original house c1890, possibly including glazed entrance porch/passageway with large conservatory, Painted stucco facades with pedimented gables and moulded string course at storey height level. Plain and moulded window reveals/surrounds with painted stone sills. Originally, set of eight tall rectangular window openings on garden facade, i.e., four on each of two main floors. Combination of gabled main roof with twin hipped roofs. Bargeboards on shaped wooden brackets to projecting gables with overhanging eaves/gutter elsewhere. Slate roof coverings with clay ridge and hip tiles and lead valleys and gutters. Stucco rendered chimney stacks with stepped and projecting moulded caps. Buff ‘crown’ chimney pots. Original sash windows with glazing bars plus number of later replacements and alterations. Original boundary wall and gate piers to Park Valley, altered, rendered and partially removed, to form garage drive entrance.
