1 Park Valley

Also known as Arundel House. Large detached two storey house plus basement and attics, c1870. Plans by Leslie Harris for flat conversion scheme c1925. House remains converted for use as flats. In prominent position at eastern entry to The Park at junction of Lenton Road and Park Valley. Possibly by Hine & Evans architects. Substantial part of original garden area now lost to separate residential development adjacent to Huntingdon Drive c1970. Late 19c/early 20c pitched roof extensions and additions adjacent to Park Valley boundary plus single storey, pitched roof extension abutting north facing facade. Coursed rubble stone basement storey and boundary wall, red brick facades with ashlar dressings and hipped slate roof with dormers. Full height canted window bay facing garden with gabled dormer above. To the right, two storey bow window bay with ornamental stonework balustrade. Three storey canted window bay with hipped slate roof overlooking Lenton Road. Prominent stone fronted main entrance porch on Park Valley with pitched glazed roof and pair of moulded, pointed arch ashlar entrance door openings. Moulded brick and terracotta band at eaves and first floor storey height level. Extensive use of coursed rubble stone walls to basement and entrance porch with arched door and window openings, plus decorative ashlar details at window openings including lintels, shaft pilasters and sills. Most of the stonework has remained unpainted. Hipped slate roof with original brick dormers plus gabled dormer with ashlar dressings, clay ridge tiles and terracotta finials. Prominent red brick chimney stacks with brick relief patterning and corbelled caps. Original pots missing or replaced. Some original c.i. fittings with additional later pipework to service flat conversions. Original windows mainly plain or single glazing bar sashes. A number of window alterations and additions including flat roofed dormers to attics. Pair of shaped, panelled outer main entrance doors to porch. Prominent original coursed rubble stone boundary walls to Park Valley and Lenton Road. Remnants of original stone boundary wall and outbuildings form part of later, predominantly, brick extension adjacent to entrance porch/passageway on Park Valley.
