Detached house c1860, possibly by architect T.C. Hine.Also known as Pelham House. (Newcastle Drive originally named Pelham Terrace). House abuts Newcastle Drive at top of steeply sloping site. Lower part of original plot adjacent to Tennis Drive separately developed c1970 to create 2no. ‘townhouses’ replacing stable and carriage building and small yard area. House now converted into flats. Two storeys plus basement and attic. Red brick with stone dressings and gabled slate roof with parapets. Later alterations and single storey extensions on road front. Originally, large conservatory abutted east facing facade adjacent to boundary with no.39. Pair of full height canted window bays overlooking garden with projecting gabled wing on road front. Prominent moulded stone cornice with blocking course on road front and stone balustrade on facade overlooking garden. Stone quoins to garden front. Also stone string courses, sill bands, plinths, copings plus complete surrounds with moulded details to a number of doors and windows, particularly main entrance doorway and canted bays. Other window openings have plainer stone lintels and sills. Stonework now painted. Pitched slate roof with attic window openings in gables. Upper section of red brick chimney stacks rebuilt with loss of original projecting moulded stone caps. Dormer window added. Original rainwater fittings replaced and further pipework added. Originally, sash windows generally, many with glazing bars.A number of alterations and additions to door and window openings. Very little remains of original brick boundary wall with three gated openings adjacent to Newcastle Drive. Now, large openings with brick piers, railings and gates for access to drives and car parking.
